| SAIF Annual Awards Dinner This prestigious event took place on 25th May 2012 at Emperors Palace and was attended by over 300 members of the foundry industry. The dinner was well supported by sponsors in the form of prizes for the award winners, spot prizes for attendees, wine on the tables and ticket sponsors for VIP guests invited by the institute. We would like to thank the following sponsors for their valuable contributions.

New Council Members elected

New Website positively received
One month after the re-launch of the SAIF website, the statistical analysis showed a remarkable 69.20% new visitors to the site and 30.80% returning visitors. The site is regularly updated with information, training programmes and technical presentations. |

Feedback from BRICS – China Beijing ![]() John Davies (CEO) represented the South African foundry industry at the recent BRICS Foundry Forum and exhibition from 9th – 11th May 2012 in Beijing. Other members of industry were Adrie El Mohamadi from NFTN, Farouk Varachia (University of Johannesburg) and Dr Xi Pan (University of Johannesburg). John’s presentation on Practical Application on Improving Energy Efficiency in Foundries is available on the SAIF website. Click here for the presentation. One of the positive outcomes of the visit to China was the successful negotiations for South Africa to host the 2013 BRICS Forum which will be hosted in conjunction with the Metal Casting Conference 2013, which takes place at Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge, Pilansberg in North West Province from 13th to 16th March 2013. UNIDO SAIF Contract Profiling and Benchmarking The SAIF will shortly commence with the profiling and benchmarking of foundries sector, that wish to participate in the State Owned Enterprises infrastructural capital investment programme. More than One Trillion Rands will be expended across a wide range of projects in the next three years.

| Does your Foundry Comply with environmental legislation? This was the title of the technical presentation hosted on 17th April 2012 at the Reading Country Club. Sharon Meyer Douglas from Envirokey Management Services addressed members of industry on the fundamental requirements for the industry to comply with the recent legislation for the disposal of waste.
