The South African Institute of Foundrymen (SAIF) was established in 1937 as a branch of the Institute of British Foundrymen. In 2010 SAIF was registered as a non-profit company.
Today SAIF is the official industry body of a very diverse foundry industry, mainly consisting of SMME foundries. It has a 160 member base of which some 80 are corporates; representing about 50% of the membership.
The vision of the SAIF is “to be the voice of the South African Foundry industry, creating growth and job opportunities through training, skills development and education”.
In the last few years SAIF has made considerable changes, one of which was to appoint a permanent Chief Executive Officer (CEO). When the CEO retired in March 2017, an Executive Director was appointed. This was partly made possible through the engagement and support of the National Foundry Technology Network (NFTN) with whom SAIF has been in contract since 2009.
