2. PRODUCTIVITY AND PRODUCTION PLANNING

The South African Institute of Foundrymen (SAIF) is offering two short courses in the following:

  • Metallurgy and Metal Melting
  • Productivity and Production Planning

This training initiative is supported and subsidized by the National Foundry Technology Network (NFTN), a proud initiative of the dti

The Metallurgy and Metal Melting Module will be presented by Mr Sean Stadler

 Lectures will take place as follows:

 Venue: John Thompson Foundry
Sacks Circle, Belville South

Western Cape

 Times: 08:00 am – 13:00 pm

Date:    Training will commence on Saturday, 09th May 2015

 The course will run over 8 – 9 weeks on Saturday mornings and it is expected to conclude on Saturday, 04th July 2015

 The Metallurgy and Metal Melting Module will consist of eight sections covering inter alia,
the following:

  • Metal Melting
  • Grey Cast Iron
  • Ductile Iron Metallurgy
  • Non – Ferrous Metallurgy
  • Refractories
  • Melting and Pouring Practice
  • Metal Control Testing
  • The Metallurgy and Technology of Steel Castings

The Productivity and Production Planning  Module will be presented by Mr Denzel Vermeulen

The Productivity and Production Planning Module will consist of seven sections covering inter alia, the following:

  • Operations Management
  • Master Planning
  • Productivity Improvement
  • Method Study
  • Work Measurement
  • Capacity Requirements Planning
  • Shop Floor Control

Lectures will take place as follows:

 Venue: Atlantis Foundries
Business Park, Training Centre, William Gourlay Street, Atlantis, Industria

Western Cape

Times: 08:00 am – 13:00 pm

Date:    Training will commence on Saturday, 09th May 2015

 The course will run over 8 – 9 weeks on Saturday mornings and it is expected to conclude on Saturday, 04th July 2015

These course is directed at team leaders, first line supervisors, operations managers and maintenance personnel in foundries.

Learners are only permitted to register for one module at a time, as both modules will be running at the same time at the two different venues.

Cost Per Student: R950.00 for the course.
Payment is required on registration of each student.


No registrations will be processed without the required documentation and confirmation of payment.
